Check out the old page, and photos for it.
We are holding a LAN Party, that's the basic of it. It will be held some day during February break, so it should work for most people. The exact date will be determined based on conflicts. It will be from 2PM to 9PM in the Marra's basement. The time of it is subject to change based on anything. As a LAN Party, yes it is BYOC, so you will need to bring your own computer, keyboard, mouse, headphones, and monitor.
We will be running a Linux dedicated server which is currently capable of running Counter-Strike, Counter-Strike: Source, Half-Life 2: Deathmatch, Unreal Tournament 2004, and possibly other games upon request. Web-based stats for CS, CS:S , HL@:DM, and UT2004 will be available. The primary game as of now is Counter-Strike, since it has low requirements. Any other games may be requested and will be considered, but basically everyone will need to own it. Since only about 12 people will be attending, mostly everyone needs to be included in the game being currently played, and the server will host only one game at a time.
If you own a tremendously heavy or large (over 19in) monitor and will have trouble bringing it, we or someone else attending may be able to provide a smaller alternative to help you. Your computer must be capable of at least playing Counter-Strike, though it is preferable if you can run Counter-Strike: Source. In order to meet Counter-Strike's requirements, almost any system should be capable, but for Half-Life 2 a fairly recent computer that has an actual graphics card is definitely required. FYI, Source is very much preffered at this point.
Below is a list of games we might be playing, that are all excellent nonetheless, and you should consider buying them if you don't already own them.
Again, don't feel obligated to go and buy all of these games now, as nothing is decided yet, but they are all very good games.
As 7 hours might get too intense for you, there is no obligation to play the entire time. There will be music playing by request, so bring mp3s, and you can always take a break and watch a little TV. If you have a time conflict that would effectively eliminate over 3 hours of time, you should talk to us before planning on attending. There will also be food provided, and Bawls for purchase.
It's true. All of this Birthday bash fun stuff costs money. But not much. The total expenses to pay for the party are as follows, so that you know what you're paying for:
That comes to a total of roughly $8 each person must pay. Thats only about $1.16 an hour, which honestly, is not a lot. Last time I checked, PCGaming Arena was $5 an hour, which would end up costing you $30 + food to play. If more LANs were to occur, then the cost could be lowered to about $4-5 per person.
So we've got you hooked, eh? If by now you have decided you indeed would like to come and frag the [insert explicit word here] out of everyone else, then all you need to do is hit us up with an e-mail at lanparty@twoplustwoequalsfive.com with the following long list of details:
By sending us this e-mail, you are registering to show up with your system and games and such, and $7, ready to frag. However in the event more than 12 people register, slots will be picked on a first-come first-serve basis.
