twoplustwoequalsfive.com is a year old and we're having a party, what now?
Partially out of celebration, but mostly out of a want to game, we are holding a LAN Party to celebrate the 1st birthday of 2 + 2. It will be held on Friday November 11, Veteran's Day, since there is no school then. It will be from 3PM to 9PM in the Marra's basement. The time of it is subject to change based on how long anyone is willing to play for. As a LAN Party, yes it is BYOC, so you will need to bring your own computer, keyboard, mouse, headphones, and monitor.
We will be running a Linux dedicated server which is currently capable of running Counter-Strike, Counter-Strike: Source, Half-Life 2: Deathmatch, Unreal Tournament 2004, Call of Duty, and Battlefield 1942. Web-based stats for CS or CS:S will also be available. The primary game as of now is Counter-Strike, since it has low requirements. RTS games can be played individually if anyone wants. Any other games may be requested and will be considered, but basically everyone will need to own it. Since only about 12 people will be attending, mostly everyone needs to be included in the game being currently played, and the server will host only one game at a time.
If you own a tremendously heavy or large (over 19in) monitor and will have trouble bringing it, we or someone else attending may be able to provide a smaller alternative to help you. Your computer must be capable of at least playing Counter-Strike, though it is preferable if you can run Counter-Strike: Source. In order to meet Counter-Strike's requirements, almost any system should be capable, but for Half-Life 2 a fairly recent computer that has an actual graphics card is definitely required.
Below are links to an online store for several games that will be played, as well as retail estimates. Order before 11/4 if you want it for the LAN Party.
Don't feel obligated to go and buy all of these games now, as nothing is decided yet, but they are all very good games.
As 6 hours might get too intense for you, there is no obligation to play the entire time. Not only will there be music playing by request throughout the event, but we also have a TV area where you can watch TV, or play your gaming console of choice. Gamecube will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your Xbox or PS2 if you would like to get down with some Halo or DDR action. Please do not come however if you plan on playing consoles more than computers. If you have a time conflict that would effectively eliminate over 3 hours of time, you should talk to us before planning on attending. There will also be food provided, and Bawls for purchase.
It's true. All of this Birthday bash fun stuff costs money. But not much. The total expenses to pay for the party are as follows, so that you know what you're paying for:
That comes to a total of roughly $7 each person must pay. Thats only about $1.16 an hour, which honestly, is not a lot. Last time I checked, PCGaming Arena was $5 an hour, which would end up costing you $30 + food to play. If more LANs were to occur, then the cost could be lowered to about $4-5 per person.
So we've got you hooked, eh? If by now you have decided you indeed would like to come and frag the [insert explicit word here] out of everyone else, then all you need to do is hit us up with an e-mail at lanparty@twoplustwoequalsfive.com with the following long list of details:
By sending us this e-mail, you are registering to show up on the 11th with your system and games and such, and $7, ready to frag. However in the event more than 12 people register, slots will be picked on a first-come first-serve basis.
