- Grease Poster
Apr - 05

For my photography independent study, I did some of the graphic design work for the school play, Grease. I originally had the cover of their musical scores to work with, which contained both the 50's style cursive writing and the image of the two characters. They told me they wanted a theme of pink and black, but to keep the blue from the characters' clothing as a minor color.

I originally scanned in the cover at a stupidly high resolution because I knew that I wanted a large resolution image for the final poster and had no idea what I was doing in terms of large-resolution files. It took like five minutes just to save this, so I decided it was plenty big and shrunk it down. Some simple selection tools later, and I had isolated the characters and the word "Grease". Most painful was keeping the white inside the characters while removing the white outside, because the lines were too thin to allow for a simple magic wand to do it. From there, it was pretty much a case of positioning the elements and adding text, both of which are quite simple.

Some slight modifications were made to this for the large poster they made, but it was quite cool to see people walking around school with my work on their shirts. A larger sized poster can be seen here
