I am involved in the FIRST Robotics program. This summer, I traveled to an offseason event in Indianapolis called IRI, and while there I produced an episode of the vidcast NERD Vision
Of course, when I say "produced", I mean planned, taped, appeared in, and edited. I’d never undertaken such a large video production project on my own, so I sort of had to make things up as I went along. For equipment, I had nothing but my MiniDV camera, some computer microphones, and a mini-tripod. Also, I learned that if you take a video camera through airport security, they make sure it isn’t an explosive video camera.
Some of the things I would like to have been able to improve in this production is the audio quality, as the outdoor shots have wind on the mics and the audio is close to spiking (or does spike) a lot. It is hard to be the talent for a shot and make sure it is technically correct at the same time, but that is what happens when you essentially have a one man crew. Still, thanks to how easy it is for anyone to edit video these days, I was able to be my own video production team and make a 20 minute episode of a show. It came out really good in the end.
You can watch the episode by downloading it from the NERD site.
